Wonder what to do on a snow day no longer. Create your own kids fun game plan with these 8 snow day activities for toddlers and preschoolers!
Snow days always throw me for a loop. What to do with the kids… make them a day to remember with these 8 indoor activities for kids to do!
After having so, so many snow days this year with my preschooler, I’m finding a few types of indoor activities that are my go-to activities for kids on these kinds of days.
With these activities you’ll help to make them fun snow days that the kids will remember!
8 Sure-Fire Snow Day Activities for Kids!
Simple, easy to do, and quick indoor snow day activities for kids!
Plus there’s always 32 snow theme activities for kids to do too.
1. Games, Puzzles & Coloring Books
All very good. My kids are on a game kick right now, so indoor days are a perfect time to really get some game action in.
Puzzles getting a bit dull? Get your preschoolers into those puzzles all over again with a fun mix-it-up activity twist on your next snow day.
2. Tape Activities for Snow Days
Getting the kids moving…. and being stuck inside… usually makes it difficult, but I have found tape to be a lifesaver.
Yep. Tape.
I love tape activities, especially on snow days.
From the sticky spider web to mazes on the floor to just a simple line of tape, all work wonders.
But my favorite – a bunch of lines of tape on the floor to see how far they can jump (the day will fly by!).
3. Couch Cushion Activities for Snow Days
Fort building and ‘island’ jumping or walking along all the cushions.
Build pillow towers as tall as you can and then run into them to knock it all down. Then do it again!
Let them find a challenge for the day!
4. Scavenger Hunts
Find anything and everything with scavenger hunt activities on snow days.
A simple ‘can you find…?’ as you think them up.
Or a more thought out scavenger hunt. Try one that has clues placed around the house for them to solve and find.
5. Snow Day Indoor Sandbox Activity Ideas
Bring the sandbox inside for a wonderful snow day activity!
Do it with rice, flour, oatmeal, or whatever you have.
Let them drive their cars and trucks in it in a small tub or tray.
Or add measuring tools and cups to measure and pour or mix things up.
6. A Box
I couldn’t leave out a box.
If you’re lucky to have a huge one, go dumpster diving for treasures!
On your next snow day grab a hammer and golf tees for another great activity. Draw a pattern on the box to hammer into, letter or number matching, or just let them go crazy.
Or see what they can make from any kind of box you may have (even a cereal box can lead to something)!
7. Crafty Activities for Your Next Snow Day
Crafts are a great way to spend a day indoors.
Threading anything is a great calming ‘busy’ activity.
Thread a necklace with straws, or a bird feeder with cereal, or use beads to make something special for someone.
8. Let them get creative!
Lay out a big sheet of paper and see what they come up with!
Bonus for putting it in an odd spot – they’ll think its fun!
Try the coffee table, the floor, or underneath the table even.
What can kids do when bored in winter?
Above is my go-to list of indoor activities for when you’re stuck inside on a snow day. Ranging from gross motor to fine motor, crafts to learning.
Simply put, any activity that takes little set up is usually a good fit for quickly entertaining kids.
There are also many options for outdoor play in the winter also. It’s important for kids to still get fresh air but snow can get boring after a while.
Spice it up a little.
Try coloring snow, making a road to play with trucks, try follow the leader with footprints, or do a scavenger hunt in the snow.
To mix it up with your preschoolers, you can also try bringing an outdoor snow day activity indoors!
Ideas like paper plate skating, indoor snowball fights with balled up socks or newspaper, play with homemade snow, or make a snowman sensory bin with shredded paper.

Whoops! I should have read the other comments, first. Still, the snow in the bath idea is fun :)

Those are such fun activities! Normally, we try to get outside and play in the snow, but it is good to have some inside things to do, too. One thing that was really fun when my kids were little, was to bring in a few buckets of snow and put it in the bathtub. They could build with it, color it with non-toxic dye, and even climb around on it without getting too cold.

FANTASTIC IDEAS. THANK YOU

Snow busy bags that are opened hourly are also a good ideas. I use these for rainy days, but would be fun for snow days. Another good ideas is to give your kids safe ingredients to invent your own paint.

A friend actually brought snow in and put it in a bathtub for the kids to play in–we’ve had snow but temps have been too cold for outdoor play. I thought that was a great idea!

That is a brilliant idea Jennifer! I’ve seen others do it too and it never crossed my mind for some reason. Thanks for bringing it up!
