I always love finding ways to incorporate math activities into real, hands-on activities for a more fun learning experience. Worksheets at a desk are just boring!
Take this measuring activity outside and see how tall you are with pine cones, leaves, rocks, or make this an indoor activity with blocks or your child’s favorite toy that they have multiple of (hot wheels cars?)!
Make it a fun scavenger hunt to find X number of an item before you start the activity.
Have your child lay down and line up the objects right beside them.
Count the objects to see how your tall your child is.
“You are 20 pine cones tall!”
What if you outstretch your arms above your head, how many more pine cones tall are you?
Compare objects, are you more pine cones tall than hot wheels cars? How many of each?

Now, switch places with your child and let them measure you!
Older kids can measure several things and talk about which is longer. What other objects around the house can you measure? How many cars long is the couch?
