Halloween

We had a Halloween pajama reading party!
As part of a sponsored collaboration with Scholastic and Eveready, the boys can I set up a fun night of reading in the dark!
Since Halloween is coming up, I wanted to try a reading fort that’s Halloween themed. The boys loved this so much, we’ll be doing it again on Halloween night!
We planned a night to read in the dark after Louis went to bed.
I set up the fort after Louis went to bed to ensure that it wouldn’t get torn down.
I just used toilet paper to make our Halloween fort reading nook!
I used the coffee table and the couch as the side supports and taped toilet paper (using painter’s tape of course) to the top of them.
Of course, taping to fabric on the couch wasn’t extremely successful. It loosened up in places. To ensure it stayed, I then just propped a blanket on top of toilet paper that I had already taped. It stayed put then!
To plan our evening, I followed along Scholastic’s toolkit for Reading Under the Covers (download it here):
- Pick a Theme: Halloween
- Make a plan: In the evening on a Friday night so the boys could stay up late, after Louis went to bed.
- Send invitations: Simple does it for us – just asking goes a long ways!
- Prep for the party: I made popcorn for the boys to munch on, the boys and I gathered all our Halloween themed books, which is pretty sparse, we used a lot of ‘monster’ themed books too. George grabbed our Eveready Flashlight to use to read in the dark. I set up the fort for us to read in!
Henry read to George for a while, and then I crawled into the Halloween fort and read to them too.
The boys truly treasured this night. It was spontaneous and out of the norm for us. A little toilet paper and a flashlight sure makes for a special night!
Visit Scholastic to download your own party toolkit to plan a reading under the covers party with your kids! Have fun!
Even more, check out how you can get a free Scholastic book by visiting Eveready. (This might be something fun to do as a teacher with your students. Collect the codes! Just a thought.)
