It was for Grandpa’s birthday, my mom mentioned there was cake for dessert, so we made homemade ice cream in a bag to go with it!
Ever since The Pleasantest Thing shared her homemade ice cream pops here and I saw Coffee Cups and Crayon’s homemade ice cream in a bag recipe, I’ve been dying to make ice cream with the kids.
Did you know International Delight now has ice cream flavored (Cold Stone Creamery!!) creamers?
We’ve been using their bottles in crafts a lot lately, so I thought it would be fun to use their creamer in one of our activities too! These flavors were the perfect addition to flavor our ice cream and use in place of the cream.
To make homemade ice cream in a bag, with the yummy International Delight creamer for flavor, you’ll need:
- 1 cup Cold Stone Creamery International Delight Coffee Creamer, choose whatever flavor you’d prefer for your ice cream: Cold Stone Creamery™ Hot for Cookie™, Cold Stone Creamery™ Founder’s Favorite™, Cold Stone Creamery™ Churro Caramel, or Cold Stone Creamery™ Sweet Cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar
You’ll also need these materials to make it:
- a small baggy (quart-size)
- a larger baggy (gallon-size)
- lots of ice
- some rock salt (I had to double check, but this is the salt you put out on your driveway when its icy)
- a container that you can fit all this into (my handy tip is coming up)
I measured out the creamer, George added in the sugar and we poured it in the small baggy and zipped it close.
We put the small baggy in the big (gallon-sized) bag and added ice all around it and then sprinkled some rock salt on top, probably a few tablespoons worth.
Then its shaking time!
Except it gets really cold. Too cold for me, so way too cold for George.
My mom gave us the tip to put it in a coffee can and roll it back in forth to each other to we wouldn’t have to touch the cold bag.
But, ironically, we didn’t have a coffee can around. Instead we found a large plastic container and put the bag of ice cream in it and shook that around!
We threw it back and forth, shake, shake shake, slid it, and tried rolling it (but there was a handle that made that hard to do).
Since it was before lunchtime, we stuck it in the freezer until desert time. Then topped Grandpa’s chocolate cake with it! Yum!
Our homemade ice cream recipe ended up a little soft, so if you want to the real deal with International Delight flavoring, I’d check out Skip to my Lou’s homemade sweet ice cream recipe.
Although, it was soft, it was a great cake topper! The boys gobbled it up (so did Grandpa)!
