We love this easy, no-prep Valentine's game for kids to practice numbers and colors, from Shawna!
Play This Easy, No-Prep Valentine’s Game for Kids
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and love is in the air. My girls only want to do activities that involve hearts and the colors pink and red.
Making Valentine’s Day crafts is so much fun, but this year I also wanted to play some simple Valentine’s games with them. We love this simple, no-prep Valentine’s game for kids that I call Roll to Fill a Heart!
We love playing board games as a family, too!
To build your own Valentine’s game for kids, you will need:
- 2 or 3 different Valentine colored pom poms (red/pink/white/purple)
- 2-3 small containers
- 2-4 heart-shaped cookie cutters
- dice
- block
- dot stickers to match pom poms
Place one dot sticker onto each side of the block, using 6 total stickers.
If you used 2 colored pom poms, then you will need 3 of each matching dot sticker. If you used 3 colored pom poms, then you will need 2 of each corresponding dot sticker.
My girls were so excited at this point. They couldn’t wait to see what we were going to do!
Each player chooses a heart-shaped cookie cutter. On their turn, roll both the dice and the block with colored stickers.
Whatever you rolled, put that many of that color pom poms into the heart-shaped cookie cutter. For example, if you rolled 6 and red then you’d place 6 red pom poms into the cookie cutter.
The first person to fill their heart wins!
Both my girls continued to want to play this game. They absolutely loved it. They played it over and over again.
Valentine’s Game for Kids that Sneaks in Learning!
I love that this game is fun, but also teaches early learning skills, too. While we played, by girls counted pom poms, sorted by color, and built critical action-planning skills.
I especially like those planning skills. It helps kids learn to make decisions ahead of time and then follow through their plans.
Since my girls want to keep on playing this fun Valentine’s game for kids, I’m planning to switch things up a bit for the future.
We’ll be using different sized cookie cutters and different sized pom poms.
This is a super simple, fun Valentine’s Day game that anyone can play.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
