This is one of those simple activities that kids instantly love.
Beads + pipe cleaners = a hands-on activity that keeps little fingers busy… and creates something fun to play with after.
And the best part? It’s easy to set up and works for a wide range of ages.
What You’ll Need
- Pipe cleaners
- Beads
How to Make Beaded Snakes
Start by folding and twisting one end of a pipe cleaner to create the snake’s head.
(It doesn’t have to be perfect—just enough to keep the beads from sliding off.)
Then let your child start threading beads onto the pipe cleaner.
Fill it up almost to the end, and when you’re done, fold the other end to keep all the beads in place.
That’s it—you’ve got a snake!
Make It Their Own
Kids can take this in all kinds of directions:
- Use different colors to make bright, silly snakes
- Create long or short snakes
- Bend and twist them into fun shapes
And once they’re finished… the real play begins.

Add a Little Challenge for Older Kids
If you’ve got older kids, turn this into a pattern activity.
Encourage them to create simple patterns like:
- Red, blue, red, blue
- Or more complex sequences
It’s a great way to sneak in a little learning while they’re creating.
Helping Younger Kids
For younger children, you may want to prep the pipe cleaner a bit first:
- Fold over the very end so it’s not pokey
- Start the first bead for them if needed
Then let them take over from there.
What Kids Are Learning
This simple activity builds:
- Fine motor skills (threading beads takes focus!)
- Hand-eye coordination
- Early math skills through patterns
And it’s one they’ll want to do again and again.
Simple, colorful, and just the right amount of challenge.
Plus… you end up with a bunch of little snakes to play with when you’re done.
