It’s always fun to pair a book with an activity. After reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, you’ll definitely want to make this colorful alphabet art project to go with it!
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is one of those classic books that I remember hearing as a kid. The whimsical illustrations and rhyming make it totally kid-friendly and easy to enjoy.
The fact that it features some sneaky little ABCs is an extra bonus!
We read the book and then completed this fun little alphabet art project. Art projects for kids don’t have to be complicated–just fun!
Fun ABC Art Project for Kids (Inspired by Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!)
To make your own fun alphabet art for kids, you will need:
- cardstock or white paper
- coloring medium of your choice (markers, crayons, paint, etc.)
After reading the book, we got out our supplies.
Next, the kids used a pencil to draw all of the letters of the alphabet on the paper.
Some should be sideways or upside down, just like the jumbled up letters in the alphabet book!
Go ahead and help younger kids with the letter writing part of this project.
They will still have fun turning it into a work of art!
Note: The Alphabet Letters Should Touch Each Other!
Note that this letter art project will turn out the best if the letter lines extend and touch each other rather than the letters just floating around individually.
Pencil is ideal for this in case they make a mistake.
You can also do this after writing the alphabet and extend some of the lines to reach the next letter.
Now, onto making this a beautiful alphabet art project!
After the pencil lettered ABCs are done, trace over them with a black marker. Make the lines nice and thick!
The final step is to color in each section. The more colors, the better!
This is why it’s important to have the letters touching each other, to create sections and areas to separate the colors.
We used our Crayola gel crayons for this step, but you can totally complete this alphabet art project using regular markers, crayons, or even paint.
Create an animal with magazine scraps in this other fun art activity for kids!
However, I highly recommend the Crayola gel crayons as an addition to your art supplies. They glide on so smoothly and have such bold colors; the kids can’t resist them!
(This isn’t a sponsored post, and we’re not affiliated with Crayola in any way, we just absolutely love their products! These are affiliate links to purchase them on Amazon though for your convenience.)
When you’re all done, you can see if your child can find the different letters in their creation.
A little letter scavenger hunt!
If you have more than one kid creating this alphabet art, then you can have them swap art projects and see if they can find the letters on the other one.
If you don’t have a copy of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom handy, you can pair this project with any book that features the ABCs.

Alphabet Art Project for Younger Kids
My two-year old wanted to participate in this art project, too, so I wrote his name in nice big letters and let him color in that.
This is a great way to introduce their name to them, helping them recognize it.
