New Years
ParentingAll Ages15 Comments
January is the time for New Year’s resolutions. What’s yours?
This year I am making it a goal of mine to spend focused time with each of my kids. At least 10 minutes a day, every day, with every kid.
Not too tough, right? It shouldn’t be. Just gotta turn off all the tech and don’t run to do the dishes whenever I get a chance. Its kid time. And kid time only.
Much like the 30 Day to Hands on Play Challenge that The Imagination Tree and I did. But focusing in on each child during the day is my primary goal. I want each one of them to feel special every day and to not feel left out.
To kick off the year to ‘get it right’ I’m joining a bunch of moms in doing a challenge for the first 30 days of the year. Whatever our goal is for the year, we’re challenging ourselves to do it, and publicly, so you’re holding us all accountable.
The challenge will be held on my various social media platforms, mostly Facebook and Instagram, so be sure to join me there, and maybe G+ from time to time.
You can follow the hashtag #EveryKidEveryDay to see how I’m doing on my challenge. Please feel free to encourage me and give me ideas for one on one time! If you feel like you could do the same challenge with your kids, I encourage you to use the hashtag too!
Bounceback Parenting has some great ideas for spending 10 minutes with each kid, and connecting with them, that I’m sure I’ll be pulling from, and I encourage you to do the same!
I mentioned that I’m doing this with other moms as well. You can follow all of our challenges with the hashtag #30DayMom
Please follow along as we all face our challenges for the month of January!

This is a lovely idea! I use a habit list on my phone to remind me to do all sorts of other things throughout the day, I think I’ll be adding this one too. I also do the 1 second a day video project so I might combine the two :) Thanks.
Jamie Reimer says
What’s the 1 second a day video project? I’m curious to learn more!
Rachel says
It’s an iPhone app you can use to edit your videos of the year into a set of single seconds. Hard to describe :) see my friend’s one at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNLDEN7MbxM. The app is at http://1secondeveryday.com/ My video was not as nice as Nicole’s (and shorter because I’m not as good at remembering!).
Jamie Reimer says
cool! Thanks I’m gonna look into it!
Anna@The Measured Mom says
I wish I was able to follow all 12 of of you and keep right up — with a new baby coming any day now, it’s not possible – but yours is one I can and WILL follow. I remember reading about this in a parenting book recently and starting and stopping it. Not sure why it’s so hard! Yesterday after your encouragement I put it on our job chart. Now it’s right there as part of our to do list, and I’m sure my kids won’t let me forget it. Thanks for a fabulous challenge!
Jamie Reimer says
Excellent! I’m so glad its been ‘written’ — that alone seems to help a ton. And telling others (like I do on the blog) helps me feel like I have people watching and I ‘have’ to do it — for some reason it really is hard.
Shannon Schmid (@milkandcuddles) says
This challenge really makes me smile – I cant imagine how good your kids are going to feel each day getting their special mommy time! Go you!
Jamie Reimer says
That’s the goal Shannon. Phew. I thought this challenge would be a cake walk. We’re on day 3… and I’m struggling!
Holly Homer says
Love this idea!! I think this is awesome.
Jamie Reimer says
Thanks Holly :) I gotta do your Chore challenge too! I need to learn to be consistent.
