If your kids love building towers… they’re going to love knocking them down even more.
This is one of those activities that brings big movement, lots of laughs, and just enough challenge to keep them coming back for “one more try.”

What You’ll Need
- Blocks (Duplo, Lego, or wooden blocks)
- A ball
- Tights (or a long sock, or plastic bag/bread sack)
How to Set Up Block Tower Knock Down
Start by building a few towers with your blocks.
Spread them out a bit so there’s something to aim for.
Next, place a ball inside the foot of a pair of tights (or inside a plastic bag) and hold the open end.
Now comes the fun part…
Swing the ball back and forth and try to knock down the towers!
Switch It Up
There are lots of easy ways to make this more (or less) challenging:
- Build taller towers
- Space them farther apart
- Try knocking down multiple towers in one swing
If you really want to see the blocks crash and fall, wooden blocks work best here. (Legos tend to stay clicked together!)
For Older Kids
Want to make it trickier?
Have older kids stand up higher—like on a couch or a sturdy step—to swing the ball.
The higher they are, the harder it is to aim… and the more exciting it is when they finally knock a tower down.
For Younger Kids
Keep it simple.
Let them:
- Knock towers down with their hands
- Use the ball without swinging
They still get all the fun (and you avoid frustration).
What Kids Are Learning
This activity is packed with movement and coordination:
- Hand-eye coordination (huge fine motor skill)
- Timing and control
- Cause and effect (what happens when I swing faster or slower?)
Plus, it’s a great way to burn off some energy indoors.
Build it up… knock it down… and do it all over again.
It’s simple, active, and always a hit.
