St Patrick's DayToddlers5 Comments
We’ve been having some fun with St. Patrick’s Day crafts and decorating the house with plenty of rainbows and shamrocks! We added to the collection with a shamrock wreath to display.
Henry and I made a wreath like this before for Valentine’s Day. This time we made it with shamrocks and green and orange colors for St. Patrick’s Day.
I made this wreath with George this time. I set him up decorating some green paper with regular markers as well as dot markers (affiliate link). All in green, orange, yellow or gold colors.
As he was decorating the paper, I cut out the wreath base from a cardboard pizza box from the night before. (We love upcycling our recyclables!)
I also cut some quick (a.k.a. rough) circles from tissue paper, in green, orange and white. That’s just what I had on hand. I had envisioned this with just green tissue paper, but I didn’t have nearly enough. But I’m glad, I love the white and orange colors in the wreath!
When George was finished with his paper, I set him up to make some ‘flowers’. They’re super simple and not really flowers… I just pinch at the middle of the circle and twist a bit, mostly as a way to poof up the tissue paper.
George dipped all the flowers into green paint. He was so precise with it! He took great care.
Since George is big into hearts right now (a leftover love from Valentine’s Day), I made the shamrocks with three hearts (instead of as one big shamrock), and a stem.
I just stapled them together myself to make it easy and quick since George was starting to lose interest.
I assembled the wreath mostly myself by just stapling the shamrocks and flowers onto the cutout cardboard.
George tried to staple here and there. He wanted in on the action. But he just wasn’t quite strong enough to go through the cardboard.
And staple on a ribbon to complete the wreath and hang it up!

I always make similar decorations for St. Patrick’s day using the material I work with every day – different kinds of fabrics. A few days ago I discovered a great fabric store here in my native Toronto called King Textiles and I have to say it offers the world’s finest fabrics I’ve ever seen. I can only recommend it to everyone who likes sewing his or her own pieces of clothing or other decorative items. And this wreath is a good idea, I’m definitely gonna add it to my own collection. :)

The Irish flag we made today was orange green and white so I believe you hit the nail on the head… it’s lovely! Thanks for sharing!

I love this wreath And I agree- it’s nice to have all the colors (although I’m sure all green would look cute, too)!
