30 Days to Hands on Play : Water Play

DAY 8 CHALLENGE:

WATER PLAY

This is bound to be a little messy, so prep your area a little bit if you mind.
Playing with water is an all-time favorite in this house.
Henry and George both could stand on a stool for hours [literally] at the kitchen sink, splashing, scooping, cleaning, or anything else they can come across.
This time, I set up a couple separate tubs of water and dropped in a red and blue food coloring into each. I then set out a third bowl that can be poured into.

Add a few kitchen utensils [measuring spoons and cups, a strainer, a ladle, or even a squirt bottle].

George mostly splashed and felt the water, trying to scoop it up at times.
Henry transferred the blue water into the empty bowl, one scoop at a time. Then added the entire contents of the red water at once.

Woohoo! Yep, learning during our water play!

I refilled the red water a couple of times to keep the play going.
The squirt bottle was the best because Henry got to fill it up, screw on the top and then squirt it all out! It was a fun time!

This ‘Challenge’ is meant to get you started, to spark your creativity with your kids [and their creativity!]. Your child may not be interested in this specific challenge, and that’s okay! Have another go at a previous challenge, or don’t be afraid to just sit and play with them and see where they lead you.
DAY 8 CHALLENGE:
Spend [at least] 15 minutes of uninterrupted* time playing with water with your kids.
You may want to take this to the bathtub or shower, kitchen sink, or even outside if possible. Or throw down a couple towels and let it be. Or do what we did, and just have the towels on hand when some major spills happened.
[*uninterrupted : being present with the child. No technology, phones, television, computer, etc. No errands, chores, making dinner, etc.]
IDEAS OF OBJECTS TO USE:
  • tubs/containers of water (or do it in the kitchen sink or bathtub!)
  • kitchen utensils to scoop and pour
  • add food coloring for another level of fun!
  • other materials that may be fun: glitter, sponges, paintbrushes
  • add objects that float or sink, make it an experiment!

    Could we take it to the staircase and throw water bombs around? Just an idea, will update tomorrow
