DAY 18 CHALLENGE:
KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
DAY 18 CHALLENGE:
Get in the kitchen and spend some uninterrupted* time with the kids making something together!
Try to find a kid-friendly recipe that your kids can lead the way on.
(*uninterrupted : being present with the child. No technology, phones, television, computer, etc. No errands, chores, making dinner, etc.)
Henry and I made these Cheerio Balls together. Henry did most of the scooping, pouring and stirring completely by himself. As well as helping me make the balls. Though mostly, he just dumped it onto the pan for me to make them into balls.
This was Henry’s first chance to stir the pot on the stove, he sure thought he was pretty special!
Depending on your child’s level of development, they can take part in more or less of this activity. Henry even got up on the stool at a pretty young age and turned on the mixer for me when I was baking.
You could even bake a cake or cupcakes and get really creative in decorating it together! Check out Henry’s cupcake masterpieces!
If they’re too young for that even, you can give them a bowl and spoon with some ‘ingredients’ and mix something up together for pretend! I’d love to see where this goes!
What kid-friendly recipe will you try?
Comment here as well as see what others did on The Play Network.
This ‘Challenge’ is meant to get you started, to spark your creativity with your kids (and their creativity!). Your child may not be interested in this specific challenge, and that’s okay! Have another go at a previous challenge, or don’t be afraid to just sit and play with them and see where they lead you.
The Imagination Tree will have tomorrow’s challenge for Day 19! |

My girls do love to help in the kitchen… we spend time together cooking a lot. Yesterday we went really simple though and the girls helped make Jello for dessert. Cooking with kids definitely doesn't need to be complicated!

My boys and I love to make flatbread pizza. We usually use "Flat Out" high fiber wraps, but any flatbread, pita, or naan will do. I set out bowls of sauce, cheese, veggies, cut up meat, and even edamame beans! The kids love spreading the sauce, sprinkling the cheese, and adding the toppings. They are MUCH more likely to try toppings such as broccoli and beans when they make it themselves. This pizza is fun, tasty and best of all, healthy!!!

My four year old son loves helping me cook. I just plan on things taking a very long time. He particularly likes cracking open eggs. I let him crack them in a small bowl first. And he likes playing with the shells afterward by cracking them as much as he can.
