Dominoes!
I think there’s a lot of potential that could be done for activities with Dominoes, but for now, I just let the boys explore them and see what they thought of them.
Henry immediately began to make a road with them, and George followed suit.
I just happily watched to see what they’d use the Dominoes as. My mind turning with the possibilities for learning activities that we could do.
But for now it was just nice to see the boys playing side by side, quietly, working on a project together.
I love it when I dig through a closet and see something that’s not a typical toy that could keep the boys busy and happy for a bit. I’m sure it mostly has to do with them not ever using it before and the newness of it. But I do believe we will be breaking out the Dominoes again and trying some learning activities next time!
Any other games that the kids would love to
play with in an unconventional way?
Henry is 4 years old. George is 23 months old.

My parents have a family game set (checkers, chess, Chinese checkers, dominoes, backgammon, cribbage, etc.) with about 14 different games and a trillion pieces. All of the grandchildren love this set, and Mancala, but never actually play the games. My son used the marbles, dice, and dominoes as “rocks” with his Matchbox trucks and dump trucks last time we were there. That set is hours of fun and a great exercise in putting things away, too! I remember playing pretend restaurant with backgammon pieces long before my brother and I knew how to actually play the game, too.
