Work on fine and gross motor skills as well as creativity with a simple cotton ball snowman activity perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.
Winter is definitely upon us and building snowmen is for sure a highlight with our family.
We all love them!
However, don’t worry, as you don’t have to go outside in the cold to have fun with snowmen.
This cotton ball snowman can let your kids build a snowman right on the wall inside your warm house.
I must say that snowmen are definitely my favorite Christmas decoration.
I have them all over my house.
In fact, every year my girls go around the house and count how many snowmen they can find. I try to buy one or 2 new ones each year to mix things up.
They love playing snowman hide and seek!
Cotton Ball Fluff Snowman
Like I said, my family loves snowmen. So why not have as much fun with them as we can.
To Build Your Own Cotton Ball Snowman, You Will Need:
- cotton balls
- contact paper
- large sheet of a paper
- painters tape
First, draw a large snowman on paper.
If you don’t have large paper rolls you can tape 6-8 regular printer paper sheets together for this.
Next, stick it to the wall using painters tape.
Now for the final step in setting up your cotton ball snowman activity.
Place a large sheet of contact paper (sticky side out) over the snowman and use painters tape, again, to hold it in place.
Now for the Fun Part
Give your child a bowl of cotton balls and get ready for the fun to begin.
At this point, before I could even give my daughter instructions, she instantly took the cotton balls and starting throwing them at the snowman.
Gross motor target practice at its best! So much fun!
I love it when my kids get so excited for something that they just get right in there. My daughter couldn’t wait!
And why not, follow your child’s lead!
This makes an activity so much more successful and meaningful for children.
So once, she was done throwing cotton balls, I introduced her to the way I envisioned the activity to go.
Have your child use the cotton balls to first trace over the lines of the snowman.
My daughter just rearranged all the cotton balls she had just thrown to trace the snowman.
Next, have your child take a cotton ball and continually place it on and off the snowman to create fluff (like stamping on paper).
My daughter had the giggles at this point!
She thought it was so cool to create the texture on the snowman!
This super simple activity, ended up having multiple activities within it which in turn kept my child’s attention longer.
Any activity that keeps my child busy an extended period of time, is a win in my books!
So much fun was had!
In fact, my oldest child came home from school and was sad that she wasn’t involved with this cotton ball snowman.
So, I made another one! Why not!
Go ahead and give this activity a try. Your kids are sure to love it!
Have some Cotton Ball Snowman Fun and share your experiences with us. We’d love to hear about them!
