I decided that we needed some kind of Valentine’s Day activity to do, instead of just crafty and artsy ideas.
We did a heart hunt last year, with great success.
But this year, I wanted to make Henry think about love a little.

100 Acts of Kindness.
Toddler Approved has a series on it, with many ideas for kindness and how to instill it in our children.
While we’re trying to do our acts of kindness, teaching what kindness is to a three year old

DAY 20 CHALLENGE:
PAINT!
DAY 20 CHALLENGE:
Paint! In anyway you like! Get creative [and maybe a little messy], and spend 15 minutes of uninterrupted time, with the kids today!

If you’ve been around for a while, you already know I’m a fan of Big Art.
For those of you that are new to this term that I’ve made up.
Big Art is art that makes you be involved in the process. [Because I believe

A counting book called 1, 2 ,3 to the Zoo by Eric Carle inspired this creative art and activity.
The book is a counting train of zoo animals!
Henry really enjoyed this book and loved counting each zoo animal.
A great way to learn to count

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is probably the most well-known, and popular, of his books. At least it is to me.
I asked Henry if he’d like to make a caterpillar out of tin cans.
He jumped at the chance and

We’ve been on a tin can binge,
so Henry and I had to make these drums from tin cans, too!
During my hunt for balloon ideas,
I found this tin can drum idea from both Quirky Momma and Mini-Eco.

A DIY upcycled windchime.
Henry and I rummaged through our recycling bins to find some tin cans in various shapes and sizes, including some lids. Believe me, there’s a lot you can do with stuff from your recycling bin! Upcycle whatever

Paint on a large window, outside?
It doesn’t get much better than that!
We’ve finally had some nice weather lately, and getting outside has been much needed!
I quickly made up some window paint.
I googled the recipe for window paint and ran across a recipe

[After two other failed crafty attempts today.]
Henry created this piece of art:
While I was getting supper on the table, I handed him a piece of 12×12 scrapbook paper.
Color of his choice: Green.
Poured some washable paint in a container. And gave

In continuing with our balloon extravaganza :
we painted balloons today.
We painted them two ways :
[1] paint before blowing up the balloons
[2] paint blown up balloons
I liked painting the balloons beforehand the best.
It had a sense of mystery.
What

Henry and I experimented with glue, salt and food coloring.
I did not like this craft, until I framed it.
There’s something about the frame that makes it look professional!
[okay, that may be an exaggeration]

Some crafts don’t turn out exactly how you plan…
[isn't that the cardinal rule of crafting with toddlers and preschoolers?]
but the process of doing it is still just as fun and educational.
Henry painted with ice cubes and KoolAid.

Henry made his own balloon!
(disclaimer: this is not really a balloon…
it cannot be flown around:
Henry was extremely disappointed)
This was a two day project.
We set out painting some butcher art paper (a brown paper bag would work too).

A pretty simple Valentine’s Day activity, that’s also a pretty decoration, that your toddler or preschooler can make for Valentine’s Day!
Paint one small tree branch. Stick branch in small pot. Decorate tree. Look at and smile.
