Simple DIY Calendar for Preschooler

My preschooler doesn’t really like preschool.

What do I do?
I decided to create some structure to our day.
I created a simple calendar of the week, so Henry can see what days he has preschool.
As well as seeing what he can do when he gets home from preschool!
[That's my hope, to get him excited about both preschool and an after-school activity.]

In addition, it helps him learn the days of the week.
Henry simply moves the round magnet to each day, so we know what day we’re on.
Cathy at the NurtureStore commented on the “Daily Routines” discussion on The Play Network that she uses a pictorial timeline of the children doing their activities throughout the day. A visual way for them to see what’s coming next.

I decided to combine both photographs and words for the calendar.
[Hopefully, an attempt, to show that these words have meaning.]
I simply printed them on Magnetic Paper to stick to our message board and then cut them out.
Now, Henry can choose what activities he’d like to do that day, whether its playing inside or outside, baking, crafting, or going for a walk.

Of course there are other things to do that I didn’t print out [or have pictorial references for Henry] like playdates and going to the farm. We can easily add these on with dry erase markers since its also a white board! So versatile!
How else can I get Henry excited for preschool?

This looks like a great idea! When my 2 year gets a bit older I'll definitely try to create this calendar. I love all things organization!

Please keep us posted on the progress and whether or not you see Henry reacting to preschool differently with it!
