Since I’m so beyond proud and excited about Henry making his first real drawing with sidewalk chalk, I’m going to keep celebrating it with some drawings I found on It’s Playtime last week.
A few ways to get the kids excited to draw and even write stories! I love these ideas from these creative bloggers!
[above, clockwise from top-left]
- Draw yourself as your favorite character, like Crystal & Co. did for Diary of a Whimpy Kid.
- Cheerios & Lattes has a “Play to Write, Write to Read” series on the beginning stages of writing. Love her ideas!
- Copy a drawing by describing it in words, without seeing it, from NurtureStore. Can you do it?
- Draw pictures of what they observe. Happy Little Messes makes copies and use them for coloring!
It’s Playtime is a community for play loving bloggers to share ways to play.
Check out what the rest of the playtime crew featured this week: The Imagination Tree, Messy Kids, Quirky Momma, Let the Children Play.
New to It’s Playtime? Read How to Play to get all the details. Basically, share your play ideas at the party below and browse for more play ideas from others!

I have been excited about drawing lately here too. My son is finally getting into it!
