Henry and I have been talking about making a bird’s nest for a couple weeks now.
This week it finally got warm enough to spend the entire morning or afternoon (or both!) outdoors.
To make our bird’s nest,
Henry and I headed outside to gather our materials for the nest:
small sticks, leaves, dead grass
I also used a couple small boxes (from our gigantic baby food order).
Henry spent the majority of our nest building day, digging dirt.
(This could not have been done without the help of the blue tractor or the dump truck…)
Henry added water to the dirt to make some mud.
And stirred it up.
He stirred in the gathered materials until they were covered in mud.
I then formed a shape of a bird’s nest in the box,
and let it set out overnight to dry.
(Henry had lost interest and went back to his machines)
(We are still waiting for the nest to dry.
A Picture to come later this week.
I’ll post it on Facebook, so be sure to ‘Like’ me!)
I was in a particularly good mood
and let Henry dump the box of leftover mud onto the sidewalk.
And let him make some tracks with his machines.
Henry even initiated cleanup all by himself.
In addition to building our bird’s nest, we’ve been enjoying this beautiful weather lately.
We’ve been watching the flowers grow,
going to the playground, the farm, and for walks.

I love seeing what others are doing outdoors. This was a great idea. My son would love digging in the dirt. I'll have to let him do this in my garden since it won't be planted for several weeks.

I've got a little one who would love this idea. Reminds me of the mud pies with sticks that I made, as a child.

We made a bug house yesterday with leaves and rocks. Your bird nest reminds me of it lol. I'll post a "tutorial" about it Friday! We're going to make a bird nest today and I'll put the pics on my Facebok page if you wanna see :D

What a clever idea! I think my girls really don't play with mud enough…. I'll keep this in mind, it might motivate Princess Pea to actually get dirty!

We've been spending a lot more time outside too. My older son (almost 3) loves to dig and watch daddy work on the cars. They spent hours raking leaves out of my gardens the other day.

Muddy fun! As soon as the kids recover from colds we are going to try to construct an eagles nest. We've been watching the live stream video of the Decorah eagles. I never realized until this year that their nests are humongous!
Anna @ The Imagination Tree says
Can't wait to see the finished nest! Cute idea. Do you have any little birdies to sit in it?
