ABC Mat Fun!

Do you have an ABC mat in your house?
ABC Foam Playmat 12"

We do.
Henry learned his ABC’s with this mat.
Other than that, we haven’t expanded upon what it could be used for.
Until I realized that Henry always put together small foam blocks to make a road at his Great-Grandma’s.
Let’s make a big road for his big trucks!
We also have a couple sets of the plain large foam squares.

(I intended these to be towns, or parking spaces…
But really, I needed them to just make it around the loop.)
24 Sq. Ft. (set of 6 + borders) 'We Sell Mats' Anti-Fatige Interlocking EVA Foam Flooring-Set of six Multi-Color Tiles-Each 2'x2'x3/8" Thick
Henry and I constructed our road around one of the loops in the house.
As I picked up the squares to move them,
the letters fell out,
I let it happen
Henry picked up the letters
and found the corresponding square to put it in.
This kept him quite busy.
Henry used the road for the rest of the day for various things.
He drove his entire fleet of vehicles around and around
and parked them in his cardboard box I placed next to the road.
He hauled his blocks around.
He just ran around on the mat.
Also… In the need to burn some energy, I made an ABC race.
Melissa & Doug Classic ABC Block Cart
I grabbed one of these ABC blocks and gave it to Henry.
He ran to find the matching letter on his road that we made.

I made him stay on the mat at all times.
Next time I’ll add a timer and some ‘beat the timer’ fun.

This time it worked with just saying,
‘Hurry find the J!’
What do you do with your ABC Mat?

  4. Oh we used to have so much, fun with our alphamats! Building roads, houses – yes, they actually stay up sideways when constructed fully! and of course fitting the letters in the holes. They're great just for a play mat too!
My girls have now grown out of them and we've just given them away – after all that playing they were still in excellent condition! Made of tough stuff I reckon!

Found you through the blog hop. I’m following you now, and hope you’ll stop by my blog sometime too! Have a great week!

We love our ABC mat (and our shapes and numbers). We make mazes and towers and cubes and obstacle courses. My son learned his ABC's with this mat (he just turned 3 and has known his ABC's for over a year). He has also located the correct letter. WE also make roads and sidewalks and paths. We have made houses and stores – love the mats – so easy to use. Thanks for your ideas – love your site
